The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend

The wars between e-commerce platforms continues. Google has recently announced their partnership with Walmart to compete in the e-commerce space against Amazon. They form a symbiotic relationship, each having something the other is lacking. Google has a huge online presence, Walmart has huge physical presence.

Although these two behemoths are partnering to dethrone the king (Amazon), it seems unlikely that they will be number one once this is all over. Amazon already has a huge presence, it is the go to platform for most shoppers. People pay a yearly membership to get free 2 day shipping on most of their products on Amazon (Prime memberships). Their credit card and address information is already on Amazon. People don’t like to switch.

Walmart and Google will need to work really hard to take market share away from Amazon. Unless they can present something amazing such as free 1 day shipping (hint hint). Then I find it hard for them to do anything but second best.
